Secrets of Pluscarden

In the company of local guides you will discover new areas of the Glen of Pluscarden and uncover the social history of this iconic part of Scotland including a visit to Pluscarden Abbey and a chat with Brother Michael.

The walk has something for everyone; environmentally, historically and socially with hospitality during the walk and a 2 course BBQ* at Pluscarden Hall to round the day off.  Gathering at the Pluscarden Parish Church car park for a 3pm departure, the walk is fairly easy and will have information stops at key points.

*Apple Juice from the Abbey will be on sale or BYOB if you fancy a wee glass at the BBQ

Please wear: Boots or sturdy walking shoes. Wear suitable clothing for the weather forecast for the day. Bring extra warm clothes, hat and gloves if cold weather is predicted. Bring day-sack, something to eat and drink, a camera to capture the adventure and sun protection.

Start Point and Time: Pluscarden Parish Church (not Abbey) car park. National Grid Reference (NGR): NJ 149573. Ready to leave at 3.15pm prompt.

Difficulty/Grading: Moderate through a varying landscape, short walk uphill on road, stiles & steps, off paths but no serious climbing, suitable for fairly fit.

Distance: 7.5 kms (4.¾ miles).

Duration: approx. 5 hours (3.00pm to 8.00pm). Walk time approx. 2.5 to 3 hours. BBQ at Pluscarden Hall from approx. 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

Medical information: Be aware of Lyme’s disease which can be caused by ticks. Shower after the event and check for ticks and remove. Further information will be provided on the day.

Price: £22 per head and includes BBQ all hospitality and Abbey visit.
