Volunteering: Secrets of Spynie Adventure Guide

If you have an interest in local history and adventure, then volunteering as a guide for the Secrets of Spynie adventures will be right up your street (well canal).  It’s one of a number of separate activities linked to the overall story of the Laich of Moray and looks back in time to when Spynie Palace was the main seaport for Elgin. The ½ day adventure is undertaken by voyageur canoe and by foot.

What skills do I need to be able to help?

An interest in local history
Some canoeing experience – being a competent paddler

What training and support will I get?

Training is provided usually in March each year and covers all aspects of being a guide including:

  • Learning about the history of the area, people and places
  • Voyageur canoeing on the canal
  • Walking the ancient shoreline
  • Equipment involved
  • Safety and well-being

Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with groups and take on a wider role as they gain competence.
