Rhys’ Story
Rhys joined our team as a young volunteer in February 2023 when he was just 15, before becoming trainee that October. After more than a year with us, he left Outfit Moray in April 2025 to start his first job.
Rhys shares his trainee experience below:
I love mountain climbing and indoor climbing and want to work in the outdoors, but struggled with going in sea water.
My time as a trainee with Outfit Moray enabled me to learn more paddle skills and become a Paddlesports Instructor and I am now comfortable in Grade 3 rapids! If it wasn’t for Outfit Moray, I would still be at school, but now I am working and earning wages at 17.
During my time with Outfit Moray, I was able to gain qualifications in White Water Safety and Rescue and Outdoor First Aid. I also got my Paddlesports Instructor, Grade 2 Raft Guide, Climbing Wall Assistance Instructor adn Archery Instructor Level 2.
